This Hightop VW T4 (SWB) Automomes conversion has been a reliable and well-loved partner in family travel adventures. She’s a 1993 model with a 2.4Lt normally aspirated diesel motor which has provided pretty faultless service over the last 30 years. I was expecting another 100,000 miles out of it, but ULEZ has intervened.
The Automomes’ 2 berth conversion is plush with two Captian’s chairs up front and comfortably upholstered three seats or fold out bed in the back. storage is ample, including a wet store outside at rear. She comes with rear tow hitch and cycle carrier (2-3 bikes depending on sizes), screen cover and a 240v-12v Inverter that I preferentially use for hook-up. Currently the fitted fridge works on electric, though the gas igniter has failed. However, I find a larger capacity cold box to be more effiecient/useful, so tend to use the fridge as an extra cupboard.
Given her age and usage, there is some cosmetic wear and tear including a little rust and paint chips on the exterior though nothing serious. Please see the photos provided, I have included the wear and tear here.
She has been serviced regularly and maintained professionally. Recently this has included a new starter motor and battery, replacement coolant pipes and new oil pressure sensor. Tires are in good condition and MOT is 6 months. So, she continues to run well and is ready for further adventures.
