This unique rig is definitely not bling — an antidote to the cult of Transporter — and I like to think of her as completely authentic; one might say ‘the real deal’, lately used by a woodman (and author) who lived in her while working remotely on forestry projects.
Handsome bluff nosed 612d with old skool looks. She is categorised on the V5c as a ‘Motor Caravan.’ The truck drives beautifully and feels smooth and surprisingly refined behind the wheel. Bullet proof engine and impeccable chassis, regularly serviced.
Body work has been painted Bancha Green (cab) and Brick Red/Matt black for living unit, harking back to the vans and trucks of the late Eighties and early Nineties. There is very little rust, a tiny bit on the bonnet and a small bit on the doors, but the whole back end is fabricated from aluminium panel, so light and rust-free. There are some dings and scratches here and there, as one would expect from a vehicle nearly 25 years young!
The interior space is cosy with a separate double bed sleeping pod at back of truck which one can climb into and bed space above cab for single adult or two little ones. Toilet facilities stretch to a modern cassette variety in the loo; the flush runs off the leisure battery in the back which is charged by a solar panel in the roof. Kitchen and living area feature oven and gas hob (LPG), copper sink (bought in Morocco), and a cold tap with electric on/off switch. Woodburner by the door fabricated by Windy Smithy in East Devon and fire-proof chequer plate panel behind. Loads of storage with kitchen cupboards, clothes drawers, racks, and huge space underneath double bed accessible from both inside and outside the vehicle. Air brakes. Large roof rack and solar panel on roof. Retractable steel ladder on rear of vehicle to access roof. Large chequer plate storage box attached to back of truck for extra storage — I used it for firewood, charcoal, axes, billhook, forestry gear, rope.
Large water tank which is filled from outside truck and load space for small LPG cylinder, accessed from outside too and which can be filled easily at any service station with LPG pump. Vehicle’s engine is diesel.
No advisories on last MOT (18th May 2023). You will need a C1 category on your driving licence as the truck tax class is HGV. If you passed your test before January 1997, this category is automatically included on your driving licence.
Why am I selling? I am giving up the itinerant forestry work and, along with a relationship break up, need funds. I have priced her to sell — at the exact amount I paid for her a few years back, despite the work and improvements I have made. I believe it to be a fair price and not greedy.
