Its February now, that means I have been van dwelling for a good 14 months. Do I still enjoy? Ahh sometimes I absolutely love it, the freedom, the way of life, it’s hard to explain but being on the road traveling at your own free will, It’s a satisfaction like no other.
Then sometimes I feel going back to what is considered the ‘normal’ lifestyle. Sometimes I will be sat in traffic and notice a driver next to me in his nice car. He’s my age, drives a BMW or something like that and I must admit it looks cool. I suppose I could sell the van, find a permanent job somewhere and become a full-time web developer, photographer, or something along those lines.
But then I take a step back, and then I think;
I am a dreamer – my mind wanders. For me, life is not about the materialistic possessions that we are told we must own in this modern-day society where we are judged then given our own special space on the social podium of success. For me life is about knowing that the whole 24 hours, 365 days of the year, or the average 86 years I am expected to live is spent just doing that, living. I am not saying I am irresponsible – far from it. I work my bloody arse of hard like most other people. I sacrifice a lot of things to have, well, the other things I want in my life. It’s just my priorities lie differently to how western society states they should be.
If you look at the exact point in time humans are in right now, throughout history this is by far the best time you could ever wish for to be alive. Despite all the bad news we are bombarded with day and night, the world right now is in fact the safest it has ever been throughout time. Do not let the news or other media outlets scare you and hold you hostage to your own fears.
I will soon be setting off hitting that road again traveling down the less taken paths and I absolutely can’t wait. There’s a saying that goes ‘Once you go traveling you get the travel bug and it does not leave you’ – well it’s got me strong I can tell you. I love to find new places that have not been touched by your average traveler and capturing those places on camera, freezing that very moment in time. Don’t be scared to live, to break that cycle of life and do what you enjoy. Find your passion and go for it!
